One of the many groups lobbying here at the Labour Party Conference in Bournemouth are representatives of hundreds of workers fighting to keep open one of the oldest commercial shipyards in the country. The yard is at Appledore in North Devon and some 550 jobs are at stake. The workers have now occupied the shipyard in a effort to prevent its closure. The action has achieved coverage in the national media, but the workers there are using a new weapon - they have a weblog.
